Mahmudur Rahman, a well-known critic of authoritarianism and acting of Amar Desh News Paper, has been jailed after surrendering to the court.
He was convicted in a controversial case involving a plot to kidnap and kill Sajib Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka ordered his imprisonment today. Rahman’s lawyer, Syed Zainul Abedin, argued that the case was politically motivated. After returning to the country, Rahman surrendered in court, and his legal team is preparing to seek bail.
