BNP has called on the interim government’s Chief Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, to announce an election roadmap and form a new Election Commission based on consensus among the major political parties. Following a dialogue with the Chief Advisor on Saturday (October 5), BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters, “We have urged the Chief Advisor to suspend the current Election Commission Appointment Act and immediately form a new Election Commission through consensus among the major political parties. We also asked for a roadmap on when the election will be held.”
The dialogue, held at the state guest house Jamuna, is part of the interim government’s ongoing discussions with political parties to advance the work of six reform commissions. BNP was the first to engage in this new phase of talks.
Fakhrul also expressed concerns about the activities of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her stay in India and called on the interim government to take urgent steps to address the issue. He requested that the government raise this matter with the Indian authorities.
Additionally, BNP demanded the removal of certain individuals within the interim government who, according to Fakhrul, are obstructing the essence of the interim government and the mass uprising.
The BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, included six members from the party’s standing committee, and they discussed reforms and the current political situation during the meeting.
