Former Agriculture Minister and Deputy Speaker Md. Abdus Shahid was arrested in the capital’s Uttara area, where a significant amount of cash, foreign currency, and gold jewelry were recovered from his residence. He was apprehended by the Uttara West police on the night of October 29, from a house located on Road No. 2 in Sector 10 of Uttara.
During the arrest, authorities seized cash totaling BDT 31,027,000, along with various foreign currencies: 1,120 Canadian dollars, 1,100 euros, 5,300 Thai baht, 1,953 US dollars, 500 Mexican dollars, 50 Hong Kong dollars, 3,000 rupees, and 3,117 Qatari riyals. Additionally, 85 bhori (approximately 3.2 kg) of various gold jewelry and bars were also confiscated.
Uttara West police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman confirmed the arrest early Wednesday morning (October 30). He stated that the police apprehended him from a residence in Uttara Sector 10.
The OC also mentioned that Abdus Shahid faces multiple murder charges in various police stations, including those in Uttara and West police jurisdictions.
