Ruling Party Attacked Protesters and Journalists, UN

UNHR
The UN human rights office is concerned about violence and intimidation against protesters and journalists in Bangladesh.

The UN believes that supporters of the ruling party wore masks and fled on motorcycles after the attacks.

The United Nations human rights office has expressed concern about reports of violence and intimidation against protesters and journalists in Bangladesh, including attacks by masked individuals on motorcycles thought to be ruling party supporters.

In a press briefing, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said it had received credible reports of excessive force used by police against protesters, as well as arbitrary arrests and detentions of human rights defenders and relatives of the disappeared.

The OHCHR called on the government to respect the right to peaceful assembly, end reprisals against human rights defenders and relatives of the disappeared, and conduct independent and impartial investigations into allegations of human rights abuses.
