Jatiya Party Chairman Ghulam Muhammed Quader has claimed that a significant conspiracy is underway against his party, branding it as an ally of the Awami League. He asserted that the Jatiya Party has not been involved in any of the Awami League’s misconduct.
During a press conference held at his office in Banani on Friday, November 1, at 11:30 AM, Quader addressed these allegations. He stated, “We have conducted our politics, and the Awami League has conducted theirs. We have protested against the Awami League’s wrongdoings, and we do not bear any responsibility for their actions.”
Quader emphasized that participation in elections should not be considered a crime, as it is a constitutional right. He pointed out that the Jatiya Party was coerced into participating in the 2014 and 2024 elections through blackmail, while participation in the 2018 elections was seen as legitimizing the Awami League.
He also noted that the narratives surrounding the last three elections have been distorted, stating that the Jatiya Party has fallen victim to the political violence and division stemming from the BNP-Awami League rivalry.
This comes in light of recent protests that occurred on Thursday, October 31, around 6 PM, when a group of disgruntled citizens marched with torches from the anti-terrorism Rajuk statue at Dhaka University to the Jatiya Party’s central office in Bijoynagar. The protesters claimed that the Jatiya Party has no right to engage in politics as it has been allied with the Awami League.
At one point, Jatiya Party leaders and workers emerged from their office, leading to a confrontation involving brick-throwing and a scuffle. The situation escalated when the protesters chased the Jatiya Party members, prompting them to flee, after which the protesters set fire to the office.
