Coordinators of the Discrimination Prevention Student Movement, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, filed a petition in the High Court on Monday, October 28, seeking a ban on the Awami League. The petition requests a directive to prohibit the party from engaging in any political activities.
Lawyer Advocate Ahsanul Karim confirmed the filing, stating that the move aims to prevent the Awami League from conducting political activities. The petition will be heard by a dual bench of the High Court.
Previously, in August, a similar petition seeking to ban the Awami League was dismissed by a High Court bench led by Justice AKM Asaduzzaman.
In a related move, on October 23, the Ministry of Home Affairs of the interim government issued a notification declaring Bangladesh Chhatra League, the Awami League’s affiliated student organization, a terrorist organization and banning its activities due to allegations of mass violence during July and August.
