The Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, remarked that the interim government has accepted the challenge of building a reformed and equitable Bangladesh. In a statement delivered on Friday to mark National Cooperative Day 2024, celebrated on Saturday, November 2, he expressed these views.
Dr. Yunus stated, “The 53rd National Cooperative Day 2024 is being observed in a new Bangladesh, achieved through the uprising of students, workers, and the public. On this occasion, I extend my best wishes and congratulations to all cooperative members.”
He emphasized that reforms are essential in the cooperative sector to drive economic dynamism. “To foster entrepreneurship within our society, we need a robust and sustainable cooperative system. With this goal in mind, this year’s theme, ‘Building a Country through Cooperatives, A Bangladesh Free from Inequality,’ is very timely,” he added.
The Chief Adviser highlighted the crucial role of cooperatives in poverty alleviation and socio-economic development. He explained that the interim government is currently working to enhance the capabilities of cooperatives by providing targeted professional training, easy credit facilities, and technical and other forms of assistance based on local needs. He concluded by stressing the importance of modernizing the cooperative sector to fulfill the dream of a new economy, which would support a modern and inclusive society.
