Nahid Islam has said that journalists directly connected to the fascist government, who incited violence and supported genocide, will face legal action. He made this statement while handing over donation checks to injured protestors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Support for Injured Protestors
Nahid mentioned, “The Shaheed Smriti Foundation is providing financial aid to those injured or killed during the movement.”
When asked about sending injured protestors abroad for treatment, he said, “We will take necessary steps based on the advice of doctors.”
Committee to Address Unfair Cases Against Journalists
Nahid clarified, “Only journalists who were involved with the fascist regime, provoked violence, and backed genocide will be prosecuted. If any journalist is unfairly accused, the Ministry of Information has formed a committee to review the matter.”
He added, “If any journalist or their family feels harassed by legal actions, they can contact us, and we will help.”
Legal Assistance for Injured and Deceased Protestors
Regarding legal cases for the injured and deceased, Nahid explained, “A legal team is working on this, and we will complete the trial in a special tribunal. Those who were injured or martyred during the movement are national heroes. We honor the sacrifices made by political activists who gave their lives for the cause.”
He urged everyone, “Let’s not divide the martyrs and injured by party lines or use their sacrifice for personal political interests.”
Nahid also assured, “We will cover the expenses for those who received treatment elsewhere before coming to Dhaka Medical College.”
No Action Against Protestors: Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan
Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs will soon issue instructions ensuring that no action is taken against protestors. Police officers involved in the killings, no matter how powerful, will not be spared.”
