Online activist Pinaki Bhattacharya and former Chhatra Dal joint secretary Mofizur Rahman Ashiq have been released from charges in a case filed under the Digital Security Act at the Ramna Model Thana. They were accused of being involved in a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the state.

The information was provided by Public Prosecutor (PP) Rafiqul Islam today, Thursday (October 31). He stated that October 9 was set as the date for the acceptance of the charge sheet in the tribunal. However, after reviewing the charge sheet, the judge decided not to accept the charges and discharged both Pinaki and Ashiq.

Previously, on October 15, 2022, KM Abdullahil Maruf, a sub-inspector of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit, filed the case at Ramna Thana against Pinaki Bhattacharya and two others. Mofizur Rahman and Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari were also named as co-accused in the case.

Following the investigation, CTTC sub-inspector Mohammad Rahat Hossain submitted the charge sheet against two individuals, including Pinaki, on March 7. However, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s former deputy press secretary Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari was dropped from the case by the investigating officer.
