Abu Horayra, President of the BNP’s Private University Students Wing and a vocal advocate for democratic values, was reportedly arbitrarily detained on October 29, 2023, in Mirpur, Dhaka.

According to various sources, his arrest occurred while he was en route to seek medical treatment for a leg injury. Concerns have been raised over the circumstances of his apprehension and subsequent treatment, with claims suggesting undue pressure from the authorities.

These actions have sparked further debate within the country, with many expressing apprehension over handling dissenting voices within the political landscape.

The situation has drawn attention to the importance of upholding democratic principles and ensuring the fair treatment of all individuals, including those actively advocating for democratic rights.
