Repression Against the BNP and Chatradal
Rana

Rana
DB police abducted Basirul Islam Khan Rana, Deputy General Secretary of the Central Committee of the BNP Chatradal

and Lutfar Rahman Babar, Vice President of Banani Thana Chatradol, from their homes. Despite the passage of several days, their whereabouts are still unknown to their families.

The BNP and its student wing, Chatradal, have been at the forefront of the pro-democracy movement in Bangladesh. They have been organizing protests and demonstrations against the government’s authoritarian policies.

The government has responded to these protests with brutal repression. Hundreds of BNP and Chatradal leaders and activists have been arrested and detained without charge. Many of them have been tortured and subjected to other forms of ill-treatment.

The enforced disappearance of Basirul Islam Khan Rana and Lutfar Rahman Babar is a new low for the Bangladesh government. It is a clear attempt to silence the opposition and to create a climate of fear and intimidation.

The BNP and Chatradal condemn this act of repression in the strongest possible terms. They demand the immediate and unconditional release of Basirul Islam Khan Rana and Lutfar Rahman Babar. They also demand that the government stop its ongoing repression against the BNP and Chatradol.
